• Program Orientation: The orientation will clarify expectations and provide step-by-step instructions on how to navigate this program from online readings, weekly webinars, Lore, our online platform which is the centralized location of course materials and links, as well as an online meeting place for attendees. We'll Also go through an overview of how to access CE Direct, which will be utilized to obtain online readings and complete all post-test questions. CE Direct will be a centralized location for documenting completion of course requirements, and awarding/storage of CE contact hour certificates.

• Neurological Anatomy, Physiology, and Assessment Review:  Understanding the basics of any system and assessment allows nurses the ability to better understand illnesses and disorders and how to provide better care for patients. Secure your knowledge in this review of the neuro basics: anatomy, physiology and clinical assessment. 

• Traumatic Brain Injury and Related Concepts:  What exactly is TBI? ICP? GCS? Are they connected? This webinar will discuss these acronyms, as well as the prevention, etiology and nursing interventions of other trauma-related issues.

• Current Assessment and Management of the Stroke Patient:  Is my patient having a TIA? A stroke? What are my next steps? Review how to perform stroke assessment and the ABCs of managing these life-threatening attacks.

Brian Richlik, RN, BSN, CCRN, CNRN, is a Certified Critical Care Nurse and a Certified Neuroscience Nurse. He currently serves as a Level IV charge nurse in the neurosurgical intensive care unit at University of Colorado Hospital, a certified primary stroke center in Aurora, Colorado. Brian is a member of the code and MET team. He provides unit and hospital wide education on the care of the neuroscience patient population with a focus on stroke. He has served on an American Board of Neuroscience Nurses (ABNN) task force to assist in determining the feasibility of a stroke certification. Brian has worked as a nurse for over 13 years in the critical care area in numerous university settings across the United States. His nursing career includes experience in neurosciences, surgical, medical, trauma, burn and cardiac critical care settings.

Anna Ver Hage RN, BSN, CCRN, CNRN is a Certified Critical Care Nurse and a Certified Neuroscience Nurse. She currently serves as a clinical nurse in the neurosurgical intensive care unit at University of Colorado Hospital, a certified primary stroke center in Aurora, Colorado. She has been involved in numerous quality improvement projects to improve the care of the stroke patient. She has authored and co-authored numerous articles on care of the neuroscience patient population with a focus on stroke. She was a primary investigator for an IRB approved research study assessing the accuracy of the dosing weight used when administering thrombolytics in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke. She has co-authored national guidelines regarding the care of the neuroscience patient. Anna has worked as a nurse for over 13 years in the critical care area in numerous university settings across the United States. Her nursing career includes experience in neurosciences, surgical, medical, trauma, burn and cardiac critical care settings. Anna also is an instructor for the NCLEX examination test preparation course through Kaplan University. Anna is committed to the nursing profession and feels certification in ones specialty is an important way to improve patient care. She enjoys not only educating other nurses but furthering her own education as well. She is currently finishing her Masters Degree in an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program at St. Louis University. Anna is an active member of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses (AANN) and a student member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

Megan McHugh, RN, MSN/ED, CCRN, CNRN has been continuously employed in neuroscience since 1983, predominantly in large teaching institutions. While employed as a neurodiagnostic technologist, she performed nerve conductions studies, EEG, polysomnography, and evoked potential studies both clinically and in the operating room. After pursuing a career transition into nursing, she has worked in neurosurgery stepdown and neurosurgical critical care units. For the past five years, she has worked as the Stroke Program Coordinator at Georgetown University Hospital. She teaches part of the neuro ICU orientation class, stroke nurse responder classes, and brings stroke awareness everywhere she goes.

Tracey Anderson, FNP-BC, ACNP-BC, MSN, CNRN, is a nurse practitioner working in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit with Robert Neumann, MD, PhD. She has worked in the department since 2005 specializing in stroke and Neurocritical care. She is a frequent lecturer at programs across the state of Colorado, as well as nationally and internationally. Her publications include work on stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage as well as procedural guidelines for advanced practice nurses. Her specialty interests include Stroke and Subarachnoid Hemorrhage. She is the director of the NP Neurocritical Care Fellowship Program and Director of Neurocritical Care Clinical Program Development.

Jennifer Chaikin, RN-BC, MSN, MHA, CCRN, joined Gannett Healthcare Group as executive director of educational initiatives in 2011. She is responsible for managing the educational design, content creation, and overall maintenance of the educational initiatives and other live educational events for Gannett Education. Chaikin has an extensive background in both pediatric critical care and nursing professional development throughout her 17-year nursing career. She has been a clinical nurse educator for various facilities, most recently Georgetown University Hospital in Washington D.C. Chaikin is certified by the AACN in pediatric critical care, and by the ANCC in nursing professional development. Currently, she is president of the Mid-Atlantic Nursing Staff Development Organization, an affiliate of the National Nursing Staff Development Organization. Chaikin is an accomplished nursing author and editor, and is an item writer for the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and has frequently presented on topics related to her expertise at local, regional and national conferences. She holds a dual masters in nursing and in healthcare administration, with a concentration in nursing education.
